Are you dealing with erectile dysfunction? I have recently heard men talking about erectile dysfunction in my practice. Did you know that this is the most common sexual challenge men face? This is very difficult for men as their sexual performance can be a sign of their manhood. They report that this is difficult for them. The embarrassment is due to their desire to satisfy their significant other. Did you know that in some cases erectile dysfunction is caused by watching pornography? Yes, that is correct. This is a phenomenon called porn induced erectile dysfunction.
Porn can lead to erectile dysfunction
According to the 2014 study, Porn Use Linked to Erectile Dysfunction, published in Medscape, “US armed forces health surveillance survey found that rates of erectile dysfunction had more than doubled during the preceding decade, from about 6 per 1000 person-years to about 13 per 1000 person-years, he reported. This increase was primarily accounted for by an increase in the incidence of psychogenic, rather than organic, erectile dysfunction, and coincided with the growth of pornography on the internet.”
More Studies need to be done
Their are not enough studies to make a clear case of this, but if you are reading this, you may have been wondering yourself if your pornography use is one of the causes of your challenges with sexual performance. When a man watches pornography and has a climax he has a larger release of the brain chemicals dopamine and adrenaline etc. If a man continues to watch porn and masturbate excessively, he may notice that he is not able to sexually preform when with his significant other.
In addition to watching excessive porn and masturbating, according to Medical News Today other factors such as:
- psychological distress, such as body image problems or anxiety about sex
- relationship problems
- blood vessel disorders, including those due to heart health issues
- neurological damage, which is often due to diabetes
- prostate disorders
- smoking-induced atherosclerosis, which clogs arteries
What to do if you are dealing with Erectile Dysfunction:
According to Dr Joseph Alukal, he reports that discontinuing an excessive porn habit can help with sexual dysfunction. I have also witnessed this to be the case with clients and in other research. However; for some men this may be very difficult to accomplish without help. In this case, making an appointment with a certified sexual addiction therapist could be very helpful. They will appropriately determine whether you have a problem with pornography. They can give you the tools and outside resources to help you with this problem. Consulting a medical professional is usually recommended as well. In some cases there may be other medical and other conditions that may be influencing the sexual dysfunction. See above.
